Was I surprised?

       I was not surprised in how the kids with blue eyes started to treat the kids with brown eyes. This is because kids these ages only have to be told something once or twice to start thinking it is true. So when the kids with blue eyes were put on top they liked that and took advantage of it.

What I did not like about the A Class Divided video...

      If there were going to be something I’d say I didn’t like it would be the very beginning. When she was giving her lesson to the kids in the very beginning she was asking them how black people and Indian people were being treated. They said all these negative things about how blacks and Indians were being treated or viewed in society. It made me sad because I realized that these little kids noticed that because of someone’s skin color they got treated differently. Furthermore, they knew what they were hearing about people of different skin colors was not right, but their opinions would not make a difference.

What I liked most of the A Class Divided video...

1.     I liked that fact that Jane Elliot kept so calm when she was giving her lesson to the adults while some of the adults were ready to fight and gave back attitude. It shows how sometimes an individual can be so calm and nonchalant but actually makes the person against them more upset because they aren’t reacting. That is the part I liked most because if she didn’t keep calm or reacted back she would’ve have messed up her entire lesson. She kept it professional while the people she was stereotyping against were getting rude and anxious, which wasn’t their normal behavior.  

The workforce in 2050 is projected to include more women and more African Americans. To me this is great because I am a female minority and this means that there are going to be jobs open for people like me to get.  

According to this website about 76.7% of the population of the zip code 21237 is white people. While only 16.2% is made up of blacks. Also 51.6% of the area with the zip code 21237 is female and 48.4% is male. The zip code 21237 belongs to Rosedale, Maryland.

I live in Windsor Mill, Maryland. My zip code is 21244; there are some major differences between my area’s statistics and the Rosedale statistics. For example, 72.9% of Windsor Mill is black, the complete opposite of Rosedale. Also the unemployment percentage is higher where I live. For the most part all of the positive things are higher in Rosedale, employment, household income, and more. I think this website shows that based upon were someone lives, affects their daily life. It determines whom their neighbors are, how much money that can make, and so on. 

What does it mean to be an American?  Does the reigning Ms. America represent an American?

To me being an American means being born in the United States and having pride in our country. A lot of people are born in this country but don’t believe in it. To me those people are not American. People can be any ethnicity but still be American. Someone who lives in another country but was born in America would be American to me. But there is no true definition of an American, everyone has their own opinion. According to Bucher (2013), “For some the term applies solely to those living in the United States” (p. 18).

     The reigning Ms. America is Nina Davuluri, she was born in New York but she is considered an Indian American. In my opinion she represents an American. She takes pride in her country and although all of her family may not be Americans, she is.
